An Introduction to Cassandra and the DataStax Java Driver.
Cassandra is a distributed key/value database that offers linear scalability and high performance. It is modeled after Amazon's Dynamo and Google's BigTable.
In this presentation I will provide an overview of some of Cassandra's key features such as high availability, fault tolerance, minimal configuration, and multi-data center support. I will discuss data modeling and how a relation data model maps to Cassandra.
We will then look more closely at working with CQL and programming with the DataStax Java driver. I will touch on some of the driver's features like discovery, load balancing, prepared/batch statements, and asynchronous requests.
John is a senior software engineer at Red Hat, where he has been working for the past several years. He has spent many of those years working on the open source project RHQ and the downstream product, JBoss Operations Network. His M.S. in Comp Sci is from Clemson University.
